Microarray-Technology in the ZMF

Within the scope of scientific questions the Center for medical research (ZMF) has a Core-Lab for Microarray-analysis (Affymetrix) since August 2002.

This system analyzes the expression of thousands of genes in a fast and simultanious way. On the mRNA- respectively cDNA-level straight transcribed DNA-sections of an organism, tumor or of cell-lines are surveyed, enabling conclusions of genes involved in disease processes. For the analysis there are used DNA-microarrays made by the Affymetrix company. They are manufactured using a photolithographic process and show a high transcript-density per chip. For each gene or EST 11 till 20 "measuring pairs" containing 25-mer oglionucleotides are mapped on the "GeneChip".
