Focus of our vascular research is mainly on

  • Evaluation of genetic polymorphisms using candidate gene and whole genome approaches with a focus on renal function, albuminuria/proteinuria, diabetic nephropathy, cardiovascular risk factors such as CRP, uric acid, blood pressure, lipids in conjunction with the group of Prof. W. März and Prof. B. Krüger in cooperation with Prof. Carsten Böger (Regensburg), Prof. Iris Heid (Regensburg), PD Anna Köttgen (Freiburg) and many others
  • Evaluation and use of new techniques to measure/estimate renal function experimentally and in humans in conjunction with Prof. B. Yard, Dr. S. Klotz in cooperation with Prof. L. Schad, Prof. S. Schönberg and Prof. N. Gretz
  • Studies dealing with diabetic nephropathy, especially the role of carnosine and carnosinase led by Prof. B. Yard (see presentation by Prof. Yard) and supported by Dr. S. Hauske, but also dealing with genetic polymorphisms (see point 1.) and the DIACORE study (PI in Mannheim B. Krämer) supported by PD A. Lammert
  • Regulation of renal processes (i.e. chloride channels, potassium channels, RAAS, NFATs, SGK1) led by PD D. Heitzmann and PD W. Neuhofer
