In the open stacks, around 45,000 monographs from all fields of medicine and adjacent fields are available for you to borrow. Other stocks are in the Institute and Clinic Libraries of the Mannheim University Clinic.
All doctoral and professorial theses of the Medical Faculty of Mannheim belong to the Library stock, which contains around 5000 theses to date. Due to space restrictions, they are kept in the closed stacks. Before borrowing these, you therefore need to order them via the online catalogue.
Classmarks identify the items on the shelf and consist of the subject group abbreviation (so-called notations) and the first 4 letters of the author or of the title (if there is only a publisher), for example, G 5g Meie.
The abbreviations of the subject groups usually comprise 3 characters or numbers, for example, G 5g: G stands for internal medicine, 5 for haematology and g for blood clotting diagnostics.
Note: When you search with subject group classmarks (notations) in the online catalogue, you usually always also find details on the holdings in the textbook collection in the full display, as each textbook (multiple holdings) is generally also purchased as a book (1 holding).
Classmarks identify the items on the shelf and comprise the subject category abbreviation and additional characters and numbers for book, edition and holding. Hyg 54/2:c means: Subject category hygiene, sequential number for the book, 2nd edition, holding c.

Our printed journals are listed in the online catalogue - please pay attention to the fields location, Classmark, holdings. Journals cannot be borrowed.
The issues of the current volumes provided by the Main Library are available in the entrance area of the Library in alphabetical order.
The usually yearly bound volumes of the journals are available in the open stacks of the Main Library from volume 1995 onwards or in the Institute and Clinic Libraries for the staff there. They are ordered by classmarks, which are made up of the abbreviations Kl Zs or St Zs + a sequential number, for example St Zs 217.
If you order via our document delivery service (LLD) we are copying articles from printed journals stored at our Main Library and the Institute/Clinic Libraries for UMM staff. For Non-UMM-staff bound volumes before volume 1985 (no free access) and from Institute/Clinic Libraries are provided for self copying in the printing and copying room.
For scientific staff we deliver articles from printed journals stored at our Main Library and Heidelberg University Library electronically and free of charge.
The HEIDI catalogue traces the journal stocks of the entire university, also our stocks.
Electronic resources belong to our stock as a matter of course: Besides e-journals, e-books and access to the main medical databases, we provide countless e-learning offerings, such as KELDAmed, but also DVDs and CD-ROMs, which primarily contain material to help you prepare for exams.
