Funding Period (Starting 01.01.2019)

8 PhD Students

The Universities of Heidelberg (Germany) and Groningen (the Netherlands) in cooperation with Sanofi are jointly starting the next phase of the International Graduate School GRK 1874 with the scientific focus on Diabetic Microvascular Complications (DIAMICOM).

The research program divided into four workpackages (mechanisms, eye, kidney, and nerve) is combined with an excellent educational program including theoretical and practical courses. The German Research Foundation (DFG) provides the funding (TV-L E13, Stufe 2, 67 %).

Our Concept

The main objective of DIAMICOM is to provide the graduate with highly qualified resources for research and teaching. The scientific projects will be matched by a program of seminars, state-of-the-art lectures and workshops, both in Groningen and Mannheim. Students are expected to spend time at both locations. For project specific questions, please contact the individual PIs. We are looking for applicants with excellent qualifications in life sciences.

The selection process for prospective PhD students is according to the HBIGS criteria displayed on the HBIGS webpage. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for interview to Heidelberg/Mannheim.

For MD candidates participation in the graduate program is in parallel to their studies. The scientific projects will be matched by a program of seminars, state-of-the-art lectures and workshops, both in Groningen and Mannheim. Students are expected to spend time at both locations. For project specific questions, please contact the individual PIs. We are looking for applicants with excellent qualifications in medicine.

Applicants are invited to submit their application directly to the spokesperson of GRK 1874/2. MD students who have passed the Junior Scientific Masterclass Program are particularly invited to apply.
