Inner volume BOLD-fMRI at ultra-high spatial resolution

Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging at ultra high spatial resolution requires both, a volume selective excitation pulse in order to acquire small field of view sizes and multi-echo acquisition as a compromise between enough signal and acceptable measurement time. Therefore, in this work we combined two promising approaches, blipped planar excitation pulses which allows an inner field of view size without generating aliasing artifacts and the Double Contrast Echo Train Shifted Multi Echo FLASH sequence to acquire a T2*-weighted image with a 192 x 114 matrix size and parameter settings suitable for functional measurements in 2.9 seconds.
