PD Dr. Wängler studierte Chemie mit Schwerpunkt Kernchemie an der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. Ihre Diplomarbeit befasste sich mit der Synthese neuer Bor-reicher Peptide für eine Anwendung in der Bor-Neutronen-Einfang-Therapie (BNCT). Anschließend wechselte sie an das Deutsche Krebsforschungszentrum (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, wo sie ihre Promotion zum Thema „Dendrimer-basierte Fluoreszenzfarbstoff- und DOTA-Multimere zur peptid- und antikörpergestützten Krebsdiagnostik und Therapie“ an der Ruprecht Karls-Universität Heidelberg im Jahr 2007 abschloss. Bis 02/2010 forschte sie als Post-Doktorandin in Montreal, Kanada zum Thema „Entwicklung neuer Targeting-Konzepte und Diagnostika für die PET-Bildgebung und neuer Markierungsmethoden biologisch aktiver Substanzen“. Von 02/2010 bis 02/2013 war sie vom Fonds der Chemischen Industrie geförderte Nachwuchsgruppenleiterin für Biomedizinische Chemie in an der Ludwig Maximilians-Universität München, wo sie 2011 ihre Habilitation auf dem Gebiet der „Entwicklung neuer Markierungsmethoden und Tumor-Targeting-Vektoren für die Molekulare Bildgebung“ abschloss.
Seit 03/2013 ist sie Gruppenleiterin für Biomedizinische Chemie am Institut für Klinische Radiologie und Nuklearmedizin.
