Prof. Dr. Carmen Wängler
Research group leader for biomedical chemistryE-Mail
Prof. Dr. Wängler studied chemistry with a focus on nuclear chemistry at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. Her dissertation dealt with the synthesis of new boron-rich peptides for use in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT). She then moved to the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, where she completed her doctorate on "Dendrimer-based fluorescent dye and DOTA multimers for peptide- and antibody-based cancer diagnostics and therapy" at the Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg in 2007. She worked as a post-doctoral researcher in Montreal, Canada, on the topic "Development of new targeting concepts and diagnostics for PET imaging and new labelling methods for biologically active substances" until 2010. From 2010 to 2013, she was a junior research group leader for biomedical chemistry at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, where she completed her habilitation in 2011 in the field of "Development of New Labeling Methods and Tumor Targeting Vectors for Molecular Imaging".
Since 2013, she has been research group leader for biomedical chemistry at the Institute of Clinical Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the Mannheim Medical Faculty of the University of Heidelberg. In May 2018, she was awarded the title of Associate Professor at the same institution.
