ZB MED has launched a fundraising campaign to further develop OLSPub (Open Life Science Publication Database). OLSPub is an open, open-source European publication and metadata platform for the life sciences and is being developed as a sustainable complementary infrastructure to PubMed—not as a clone, but as an independent open-source alternative created in close collaboration with the research communities.
The platform integrates and curates current biomedical literature through quality-assured processes and makes it accessible via a PubMed-like search interface with MeSH-based indexing. Initially, OLSPub focuses on journals currently indexed in MEDLINE. At the same time, a long-term European network of institutions and users is being established to ensure the sustainable operation, continuous development, and governance of the infrastructure.
As no public funding has yet been secured, fundraising is currently the only viable path to establishing OLSPub as an independent European knowledge infrastructure. The funds raised will support the development and operation of the technical infrastructure, quality assurance and editorial work, and the creation of a sustainable European funding and governance structure.
