Mathias Davids, MSc, is a PhD candidate at Heidelberg University, Germany. He received his BSc in Biomedical Engineering Sciences (focus on biomedical optics and laser physics) from Luebeck University, Germany, in 2011 and his MSc in Medical Physics (focus on MR imaging and radiation therapy) from Heidelberg University in 2013.
His research focusses on novel excitation pulse techniques in MRI. This work comprises gradient and parallel transmission radiofrequency waveform design methods to achieve 3D inner-volume excitations with increased off-resonance robustness, reduced tissue heating (SAR), and reduced peripheral nerve stimulations (PNS).
Mathias Davids joined the Chair of Computer Assisted Clinical Medicine as a research assistant in 2012, where he developed an image processing framework for fully-automatic MRI quality assurance based on phantom measurements. In 2013 he was working on his Masterís Thesis in cooperation with A. A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging of the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Boston, and the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST), Cambridge. In this work, the focus was laid on methods for joint design of gradient and RF waveforms for 3D spatially selective excitations in MRI. In 2014, he started with his PhD work on robust parallel transmission RF pulses for slice/inner-volume excitations with improved off-resonance robustness and reduced SAR and PNS.
Mathias Davids is a member of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), the European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology (ESMRMB), and the German Chapter of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.
