AWARDS ESTABLISHED
EURETINA: THE KREISSIG AWARD
The Kreissig Award was established in 2003 with the contributions of
ophthalmologists in Eastern and Western Europe, Africa and in Asia in
gratitude for the training Prof. Ingrid Kreissig had bestowed upon them
while having been chairwoman of the Department of Retina and Vitreous
Surgery at the University of Tuebingen, Germany from 1979 to 2000. Since
2004 every year at the Meeting of the international EURETINA Congress this
Award is given to a colleague for outstanding contributions in the
understanding and treatment of retinal diseases. The 1st
Kreissig Award was given to a woman in this field and after that- by
alternating every year- it was assigned to an internationally well-known
male or female expert in the specialty of retina and vitreous surgery.
