Postdoc Appreciation Week 2025

This year, the STMM will take part in the Postdoc Appreciation Week! This US/UK-inspired event runs across Germany from September 15 to 19 and offers events on a wide range of topics – most of them online and open for attendees from any institution in Germany. Here in Mannheim, we have put together a series of lunchtime events to support local postdocs and clinician scientists in their career development. All early career scientists (also soon-to-be postdocs!) are welcome to attend. All events will take place on campus and will be streamed. Please register to receive the access link.

Habilitation – wie geht das? (event in German)

Monday September 15, from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm, TPMA2 (room ‚TPMA2 S45‘).

Prof. Dr. Daniel Dürschmied (Chair of the habilitation council) and Dr. Ralf Weigel (contact person for habilitation) will give an overview of the process and the requirements and answer procedural questions. Some recently habilitated researchers will share their experience and give tips on how to navigate the process.

Mentoring programme for postdocs - heiTracks (event in English)

Wednesday September 17, from11:30 am – 12:30 pm, TPMA2 (room S45).

The mentoring programme is aimed at advanced postdocs, habilitation candidates, young research-group leaders, junior and tenure-track professors. Mentees are paired with established academics who support them in reaching their academic career goals.

Dr. Max Vetter, responsible for the programme, will present the mentoring scheme and answer questions (online). Current mentees from our faculty will share their experience and stay on for a Q&A session.

Funding opportunities for postdocs und clinician scientists (in English)

Thursday September 18, from 12:30 to 2pm, H07 (library).

Whether you are a senior doctoral student looking to fund a postdoc abroad, a clinician wishing to fund time away from the clinic to pursue research, or a senior postdoc trying to establish their independent line of research – there is a funding tool for you!

PD Dr. Yvonne Pachmayer from Heidelberg Research Services will give an overview of funding tools for early to mid-career postdocs, including fellowships from the DFG (Walter Benjamin and Emmy Noether programs), the EU (MSCA fellowships), and EMBO.

PD Dr. Nadja Meindl-Beinker will present the funding tools available to (junior) clinician scientists at UMM.

Junior researchers will share how their fellowship shaped their career and answer your questions.
