The Mannheim Medical User Experience and Usability Innovations Lab serves as a controlled environment for the evaluation and testing of digital products in the field of medicine, such as medical devices, software, and mobile applications. The M²AXI Usability Lab is located in the heart of the University Medical Center Mannheim, facilitating direct collaboration with medical device stakeholders such as medical staff and patients. The facility is open to all UMM researchers - but external stakeholders such as start-ups, larger companies or scientific research groups from other universities can also use the lab.
Our workflow begins with an introductory round in which the stakeholders get to know us and explore the possibilities of the M2AXI Usability Lab.
We carefully design the study to address our stakeholders' specific research questions and objectives and align them with the usability engineering file.
The parties agree and set the conditions to align the project scope, schedule, costs, and resources.
We conduct usability studies depending on the development phase of the product, i.e. formative or summative evaluation, including participant recruitment, data collection, and analysis.
We summarize the results in a comprehensive report following the IEC 62366-1 standard, in which we explain the results, findings, and recommendations in detail.
We offer the option of a scientific publication in which the research results can be shared with a wider audience and thus contribute to the growth of knowledge in the field of usability engineering.
