The STMM was initiated in 2022 and, following the introduction of structured doctoral programs (Dr.sc.hum. in 2022 and Dr. med. in spring 2025), is now firmly established. It offers education and advanced training for postgraduates and promotes the careers of young researchers through the faculty's own early career funding programs.
As part of this year's STMM Summer Symposium, the ceremonial inauguration of the School of Translational Medicine of the Medical Faculty Mannheim will take place on Thursday, July 17, 2025, starting at 3:00 PM.
After welcome addresses by Prof. Dr. Frauke Melchior, Rector of Heidelberg University, Prof. Dr. Sergij Goerdt, Dean of the Medical Faculty Mannheim and Dr. Carsten Dose from the Ministry of Research, Science and Arts, Baden-Württemberg, young scientists from the Medical Faculty will provide brief insights into their research: Topics include research on gut-brain-microbiome interaction presented by PD Dr. Anne Thomann from the II. Medical department and novel cellular therapies against central nervous system diseases by PD Dr. Dr. Lukas Bunse (Neurology department and DKFZ), who was recently awarded with the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz prize.
The program will be accompanied by the string quartet of the UMM Orchestra and is followed by a champagne reception. Everybody is cordially invited to join!
