The Data Integration Center (DIC) of the University Medical Center Mannheim (UMM) is part of the Department of Biomedical Informatics and works closely with the IT department.
The DIC collects research and healthcare data from the hospital.
The primary objective entails the acquisition of data from diverse source systems pertaining to routine medical care, such as laboratory and imaging data, diagnoses, and findings. This acquired data is subsequently centralized and processed. This data is provided for use in secondary medical research, to improve healthcare by incorporating the research findings.
As part of the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), data integration centers have been set up at all participating university locations.
A standardized approach using software components and integrated data sets was developed to address the technical and organizational prerequisites for leveraging data across multiple medical research facilities.
The UMM DIC supports research activities with the following services:
- Processing of project & data usage requests via the transfer office
- Advice and support in data management of studies by the Data Competence Center
The processes within the Department of Biomedical Informatics are regulated by a quality management system based on DIN EN ISO 9001, and data is collected and stored in accordance with data protection regulations.
