Full-Day Interview Skills workshop for doctoral students and postdocs

28/04/2026 – 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

As a follow-up to the Career Day on April 23, the STMM invites early career researchers to a hands‑on workshop that prepares doctoral candidates and graduates for jobs in med‑tech, pharma, and the life‑sciences sector. Led by certified communication coach Simon Wolf (University of Tübingen), the day covers application processes, assessment‑center tactics, key documents, interview preparation, and practical exercises to help you make a compelling impression.

Lisa Wolf and Raenhha Dhami are hosting Dr. sc. hum. Veronica Shiroya, staff scientist at the CPD, Division Prevention of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases.

Dr. Shiroya will speak on: Data to Decisions: Who Gets to Decide What We Do with Research?

Information session on starting your doctorate (Dr med)

This event will provide an overview of the structured training program for Dr med students at the Medical Faculty Mannheim: formalities (doctoral agreement, deadlines, doctoral scholarships, etc.) and content (courses offered by the STMM, Moodle, LEARN, structured programme).

Some of our current doctoral candidates will share their experiences and insights regarding the doctorate and answer questions (e.g., how do I find a doctoral thesis and a supervisor, do I need a semester off, how can I fund my doctorate, and much more)

Isabelle Engel and Sebastian Keil are starting off the summer semester by hosting PD Dr. rer. nat. Gordon Feld, Group Leader at the ZI (AG Psychology and Neurobiology of Sleep and Memory) and fervent supporter of Open Science.

Dr Feld’s talk is entitled: Improving the Robustness of Scientific Evidence in Biomedical Research: an Introduction to Open Science

Industry & Innovation / MedTech on Campus: CUBEX

13/2/2026 2 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The event starts at CUBEX 41 on the UMM campus. Find out more about ‘Clinical Health Technologies’ during the presentation by Dr Langejürgen from Fraunhofer IPA and visit the Hyrid OP in Cubex 41. The tour will also take you to the Inspire Living Lab, where companies and start-ups can use numerous test settings to test and further develop their digital health products. Finally, some founders will present their ideas and experiences in start-up pitches at Cubex ONE.

The event is part of the Translational Medical Research (TMR) master's programme, but also doctoral students and other interested young scientists are invited to join.

Innovation Day 2026

Save the date for the 2026 Innovation Day on January 29! The Innovation Day, jointly organized by the STMM and the TMR/IMIM Master's programs, targets all early-career researchers interested in entrepreneurship and start-ups. During the networking lunch, attendees can discuss any questions directly with representatives from regional networks and organizations dedicated to entrepreneurship and company formation.

Participation in this event can be counted towards the Dr. sc. hum. curriculum with a corresponding number of credit points/hours.
