Inflammation is the body's reaction to various noxious agents. Contrary to intuition, inflammation, when properly executed, is not a disease itself, but rather the physiological program of our body to deal with threats to tissue homeostasis. The salutary intention of inflammation implies that its harmful components, which all of us have experienced, and which serve to eliminate pathogens, must be terminated. Inflammation is therefore not only initiated by a multitude of intricately encoded mechanisms, but likely its resolution programs are equally well coordinated. The focus of our research is to understand the basic mechanisms of the resolution of inflammation. To that end, we use a number of quantitative and spatial single cell analyses techniques in murine and human models of successful versus failed resolution of inflammation.
