It is the aim of the Zebrafish Core Unit to provide researchers of the Medical Faculty Mannheim with an in vivo platform to study the mechanisms' underlying development and disease and to provide support with target identification and validation. The high fecundity rates, transparent embryos, short generation time, and hardiness make zebrafish optimal model organisms for studying many research areas.
The core facility will allocate and distribute zebrafish embryos of different developmental stages for expression studies, will perform injections of cDNA, mRNAs, transgenic constructs and morpholino antisense oligos for gain-of-function and loss- of-function experiments, and will generate zebrafish mutant lines using the CRISPR/ Cas9 gene editing technology. In addition, the core facility will provide high-throughput screens of chemical libraries.
