Anatomy and Developmental Biology

Anatomy is the study of the structure of the human body, from the whole-body level down to subcellular structures and everything in-between. It describes how we develop from the very first cell, the zygote, to a mature human being. Therefore, Anatomy represents an important branch of preclinical medicine. Our group is mainly involved in the teaching of histology, reproduction biology and embryology. Additionally, together with our colleagues from the Department of Neuroanatomy we are conducting the whole Anatomy teaching for first- and second-year medical students in Mannheim. Our objective is always to prepare the students for the subsequent clinical years of the medical program, combining theoretical, morphological knowledge with clinical applications in all our lectures and seminars.
