The role of the Innate immune system in inflammation resolution in patients with chronic inflammatory diseases

Our aim is to obtain a better understanding of the processes and environmental cues that regulate inflammation resolution. We hypothesise that dysregulation of these processes is at the heart of chronic inflammatory diseases e.g. vasculitis, rheumatoid arthritis and atherosclerosis. We aim to understand if and how resolution signals derived from the innate immune system crosstalk with the endothelium and the adaptive immune system to orchestrate regulation of the inflammatory process. Our research implements both leukocyte - and vascular biology with the intention to unravel regulation of tissue homeostasis in a contextual situation. As such we are making use of both in vitro and in vivo models of inflammation, and testing newly designed compounds for efficacy to counteract inflammation.
