The workshops serve to teach theoretical topics of general importance in pursuing research work, as well as key competences and soft skills. For most of the soft skill topics, courses are offered by HBIGS and HIGS including learning strategies, scientific writing, presenting skills, interpersonal skills, entrepreneurship, and others. To fulfil the requirements of the DFG, the mandatory seminars on rules of good scientific practice, on research involving animal experiments and on research data management will also be offered by the RTG in a concise form during the kick-off meeting for each novel cohort of PhD students.
In addition, the Masters Program Translational Medical Research of the Medical Faculty Mannheim (coordinator Prof. J. Sleeman) also offers a broad range of training in these “soft skills” which can be freely chosen by the RTG students. TMR also offers the mandatory seminars on rules of good scientific practice, on research involving animal experiments and on research data management annually. In order to allow the PhD students a maximum of flexibility for their experimental work, the students can freely choose, but have to attend at least 3 workshops in addition to the mandatory DFG seminars during their 3-year course.
