The workshops serve to teach theoretical topics of general importance in pursuing research work, as well as key competences or “soft skills”. For most of the “soft skill” topics there will be courses offered within HBIGS and HIGS. Examples include learning strategies, scientific writing, presenting and rhetorical skills, interpersonal skills, entrepreneurship, and others. In addition there is a close cooperation with the Masters Program “Translational Medical Research” of the Medical Faculty Mannheim that also offers a broad range of training in these “soft skills”. Furthermore, the DFG obliges to PhD students to attend workshops on

  1. Rules of Good Scientific Practice
  2. Animal Experiments
  3. Biostatistic and Data Handling

Altogether, the students have to attend at least 4 workshops during the 3-year schedule.
